Supporting the Whole Athlete: Mind, Body, and Beyond
One of my core professional passions lies in working with athletes across a wide range of disciplines. Growing up in a family that valued an active lifestyle and an innate competitive streak, I was fortunate to be immersed in sports from a young age. My athletic journey led me to represent Malaysia as an international athlete. Since 'retiring' from international competition, I’ve found a new challenge in trail running and ultramarathon racing—challenging physical and mental boundaries over long distances and rugged terrain.
My work with athletes is grounded in a holistic, integrative approach that honours both their performance goals and their overall well-being. Whether they are managing body image concerns, navigating the pressures of competition, or striving to find balance between sport, study, work, and life—I support athletes in cultivating mental clarity, emotional resilience, and self-compassion. I’ve had the privilege of working with athletes across Australia and New Zealand in sports such as athletics, gymnastics, dance, figure skating, swimming, rowing, and water polo. This work includes one-on-one sessions as well as facilitating workshops focused on mental performance and well-being for local sport aerobics and gymnastics clubs.
In collaboration with coaches and educators, I also co-developed and ran a performance program over two years at an independent school. This initiative supported high-performing students across sport, music, dance, and theatre—recognising the shared demands and aspirations of young people pursuing excellence in different domains.
At the heart of my practice is the belief that athletes are more than their achievements. When their whole selves are seen and supported, they can thrive—not just in sport, but in all areas of life.
Common questions about sports performance coaching

What is sports performance coaching?

Sports performance coaching is focussed on the athlete's mental strength, resilience, and mental processes that elevate or improve performance. These sessions help athletes build mental skills such as focus, confidence, goal-setting, motivation, and resilience to optimise their performance. The emphasis is often forward-looking, targeting specific outcomes such as improving technique, managing pressure, or achieving peak performance.
How is sports performance coaching different from psychological therapy?
The emphasis of sports performance coaching is often forward-looking, targeting specific outcomes such as improving technique, managing pressure, returning to sport after injury, or achieving peak performance. Sessions rarely delve into deep psychological issues (these are dealt with in psychological therapy).
In therapy, treatment is focussed on addressing and treating psychological, emotional, or behavioural symptoms that may interfere with overall well-being or daily functioning. Therapy may involve diagnosing and treating mental health conditions, resolving past traumas, and improving relationships and coping mechanisms.
